Practice Post and Saturday Skype Induction

I still haven't quite got my head around how to use this but from reading other people's blogs I think this might be quite a common topic for the first post. I have reverted to this 'simple' theme after finding that the previous one, despite looking great, was somewhat beyond my technical capabilities to use!

I participated in the Saturday Skype induction in a slightly flustered manner due to a few technical issues (not to mention a password-remembering issue) but after 7 minutes of minor panic I found myself talking to Helen, Adesola and some lovely people on the course. Now at least I am all set up and ready to go for the next session! It was a chance to ask any questions and hear a little bit about how to get started with the course. I found it very useful to find out about the next steps (such as looking through the handbook, setting up a place to study) and I have already begun to make a start on some of them (this blog post for instance). I would definitely recommend reading through the blogs of the people who have already completed this module as it is very helpful and reassuring to know that you're taking the right steps.

We also talked about the course's '3 pillars' and the first of these is communication. This refers to our blogs, group Skype sessions and Unihub. The image of our blogs being like a stone dropped in water stuck with me because it really helped me understand the point of writing them. The blogs, being the stone, is where we will write up the discussions and ideas in posts after the group sessions and that way anyone who couldn't make the session will be up to date and the information will spread outwards... like the ripples in the water..
The second pillar is our Advisor. They will be on the journey with us and will be a 'critical friend'.
The third pillar is our Handbook and this is something we will need to refer to all the time.

I am looking forward to starting the course properly and I think by the end I might even be slightly more tech savvy..!
