Task 1a

Professional Profile

After an extremely hectic week I have finally found time to sit down and write up about this task, which I started a while ago now!

By 'a while ago' I actually was referring to a couple of weeks ago but in truth, I first worked on this task of CV writing, in my second year at English National Ballet School. At the time my class was advised that layout is important but it is essential to not make it too long. Just stick to one side of A4 ideally, we were told repeatedly. I sat there desperately looking around at my peers to find others who were sharing my despair as I thought, 'one side of A4?? What can I possibly fill a whole side of A4 with if I can't include managing to lose my Oyster card on a weekly basis?!' So layout is important, but I think what my 18 year old thought process shows is that the challenge is often identifying our skills and being able to sell them in a concise, informative and appealing manner.

Now that I have worked a bit with English National Ballet as a student and more recently Northern Ballet, I have a few more things to fill my CV and I certainly don't panic like I did in that moment. As the task asks us I have rewritten my CV as a profile and have uploaded this to the 'About Me' on my blog.

As many fellow bloggers have also written, I am currently also working on my 'normal person' CV. This is something I'm sure I will be using a lot more in the future when looking for less dance based jobs. This is where I find myself facing the challenge of identifying my skills once again. How can I convey that being involves a whole load of skills (from sewing to selling the productions at promotional events) clearly and concisely?

This task is definitely one I will keep coming back to as CVs are constantly evolving and I will potentially post about it again!
